A Sense Of Perspective
Pilates is an exercise methodology that was developed in the early 1900s by Joseph Pilates (born in the 1880s and died 1967 at the age of 83). Joseph Pilates in many ways was a “Hacker” both physical and mechanical! It is the goal of the Pilates method to try to combat gravity and the force of it upon the spine, by enlisting all the muscles of the core, to provide vertical lift in an effort of lessening the pressure on the passive disks that keep the vertebrae of the spine separated. Joseph Pilates himself not only developed a physical regime to do this, but designed, patented and built, apparatus to accomplish this goal! One of the largest obstacles to the broader acceptance of Pilates is the cost of the equipment (as well as the simple fact that people too often just don’t like to exercise!) The Pilates community is divided into a number of rather combative subgroups, the most orthodox of these is the “Classical” or “Authentic” Instructors. They adhere to the closest tradition of Joseph Pilates teaching and equipment design. Again unfortunately this adherence means that the Apparatus is expensive to manufacture, and ship. What we’ve designed, and built is an attempt to both replicate the traditional feel of the Pilates Reformer, while being both more affordable to purchase, and easier to ship!
